Choosing between a 20-foot and 40-foot container affects more than fleet capacity. The internal rack configurations differ in depth, height, and mounting rail spacing — and these dimensions determine which miner models physically fit without modification.

Standard Interior Dimensions

A standard 20-foot high-cube container offers approximately 5.9 meters of interior length, while a 40-foot unit provides 12.0 meters. Both typically use 600-millimeter deep server racks, but the number of rack positions and the clearance behind each unit varies based on how the container converter positioned cable management channels.

In 20-foot containers, we commonly see only 80 millimeters of rear clearance between the miner exhaust face and the container wall. Some newer ASIC models with rear-mounted power supplies require 120 millimeters minimum for safe cable bend radius and airflow.

Models That Commonly Fail Fit Checks

During pre-purchase consultations, three categories of fit problems appear repeatedly:

  • Oversized chassis depth. Units exceeding 430 millimeters in total depth often conflict with cable management channels welded to the container floor.
  • Top-mounted exhaust. Miners exhausting upward need additional vertical clearance that standard rack rails do not provide without removing the top rail bracket.
  • Side-mounted power inlets. When power cables enter from the side rather than the rear, adjacent rack positions may block cable routing in tightly spaced configurations.

Measuring Before You Order

Request dimensional drawings from your container converter showing rack rail positions, floor channel locations, and door opening dimensions. Compare these against the physical dimensions of each miner model on your shortlist — not just height and width, but also cable entry points and exhaust direction.
